Dogs Playing at the Bark and Call Inn

Large Play Yard

The large play yard is about an acre and is fenced with dog-grade deer fencing.  It ranges in height based on the flow of the land from 6 feet to 12 feet.  When dogs play in the large yard, I am always out with them. The yard is laid out so it creates the feel of distinct spaces with their own energy and atmosphere. A higher level play area overlooks the rest of the yard and has a kiddie pool and large tunnel.  There is a plateau area surrounded by flowering bushes and it feels protected and separate.  When dogs rest in the shade beneath the bushes they seem to be in a world entirely removed from the rest of the play.  The lowest level of the yard is always in shade, dogs who are sniffers spend a great deal of time exploring here.  The mid level area of the yard is open grassy lawn, perfect for playing fetch and running full-tilt. Being so varied, this yard maintains interest and provides rich sensory engagement.

Small Play Yard

The smaller play yard is nestled behind the house and fully enclosed by the larger play yard.  It has tall, solid wood fencing. Dogs are able to play in this yard even when I need to be inside.  The James Herriot room opens onto a deck leading into the small yard.  In good weather, that door remains open giving dogs the ability to roam freely inside and out and lounge on the deck in the sun.  There is an additional gate within the small yard that can divide the small yard into two separate yards.  This gate is often used during drop offs and pick ups to help with smooth transitions.  It also functions as an introduction tool for dogs who need extra time to get accustomed to a new environment and other dogs. Two sturdy, secure gates separate the small play yard from the large play yard.
