Years ago, more than I like to acknowledge, I apprenticed for dog training to a wonderful woman in Sterling, Pam Marshall. Dog training was fascinating to me and I explored different methods and philosophies voraciously. I went to seminars featuring Ian Dunbar and Suzanne Clothier, among many others. I studied more closely with Suzanne Clothier through her workshops and personal interactions. Dog behavior has so many facets and nuances, every dog shows you something unique and novel. Eventually I focused on dogs with behavior problems and worked with rescues to rehab dogs who struggled to find homes. This was extremely rewarding but exhausting and demanding work. Over the course of many years, that aspect of my work faded and my focus shifted to elder and hospice care for dogs. I worked again with several rescues and vet offices and fostered, adopted and boarded sick, elderly and disabled dogs along with my regular boarders and daycare dogs. These were amazing dogs who changed my life.

These experiences gave me the background and knowledge base that informs what The Bark & Call Inn is today. Now, 20+ years later, I focus on well socialized dogs who love playing with other dogs. I also work with shy and nervous dogs who simply need a little understanding, space and time to adjust to new places. I have developed and implemented strategies for helping puppies become friendly, well-adjusted, social dogs. Out of my experience over the last 25 years working with dogs, I have developed strong skills reading and understanding dogs. This is invaluable in knowing and giving dogs what they need to be happy, safe and well cared for.
Outside of The Bark & Call Inn, I like to garden and create beautiful outdoor spaces around my home. The dogs are given approximately an acre and its aesthetic is designed around function and play for dogs. They can tear it up, romp and wrestle to their hearts’ content. The remainder of my property, I try to fill with as much color and life as possible. When time allows, I volunteer locally and mountain bike with my own three labs, Hotspur, Oberon & Puck.
The Bark & Call Inn has been central to my home and life for the last 25 years. The majority of my close relationships began with their dogs coming to The Bark & Call Inn. My social life is organized around the daycare and boarding dogs schedule and needs. The Bark & Call Inn is more than a business, it’s a labor of love. It, and all the clients who have come to me over these many years have given me a wonderful life. If a business can be said to have a guiding principle, here at The Bark & Call Inn it would be Integrity and Gratitude.
